Since the dawn of time, parents and their children have rarely been on the same page when it comes to choosing a career path to follow.

As recently highlighted in an article published by the Sydney Morning Herald, parents are increasingly hesitant when it comes to encouraging their children to pick up trades. Instead, increasing amounts of high school students are being reassured by their parents that an undergraduate degree is more beneficial than an apprenticeship.

Government statistics show, that 90 per cent of apprentices in electrotechnology finds a well-paid job prior to their apprenticeship. In comparison, only 71 per cent of university students are hired in their field prior to graduation. Even when hired after graduation, the median salary for graduate jobs is $54,000 per year.

Trades Apprenticeship Pay Rates put you $110,000 ahead

As a bricklaying apprentice, you’ll earn great money whilst learning the trade. Even better, as your apprenticeship progresses, so will your pay packet! Once you become a qualified bricklayer, you’ll be paid at ‘market rates’. These are rates based on the supply and demand of Bricklayers but are often above the award rate.

The financial rewards don’t stop upon the completion of your apprenticeship! You may decide to become your own boss as an ‘independent contractor’ and run your very own bricklaying gang.
Being an independent contractor means you’ll be quoting your own jobs and running your own business, which means you set the pay rate for you and your crew.
