Our Industry Engagement officer Tenille Reilly visited TAFE SA Tonsley campus to meet our South Australian Ambassador, Jacob Pedler, in action with his fellow 2nd Year apprentices. Jacob is one of six Brick and Block Careers Ambassadors across the country. His vision is to set up his own business and employ his own apprentices in the future!
Other Brick and Block Careers Ambassadors include:
Monique Juratovac, based in Western Australia
Cory Smith, based in Queensland
Chelsea Whelan, based in Tasmania
Diego Calderon, Based in Victoria, and
Adam Squire, based in New South Wales.
The visit to TAFE SA Tonsley campus was a great opportunity to get to know this South Australian group and to hear about the individual journey’s and what attracted them to the brick and blocklaying industry.
These talented apprentices are currently undertaking the unit for ‘double brick cavity walls’. While this double brick construction is not often featured in South Australia, it is the main mode of brick construction in Western Australia, so good practice for the boys who might want to head West!
The general feedback is – they are all really enjoying the opportunity and thrive off the physical demands of the trade. At the end of the day, it is a rewarding career and pay just gets better!
